5 Nutrition Facts Everyone Should Know

If you follow these tips, you are well on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

It’s no secret that the American diet is not the healthiest on the planet, mainly due to over-consumption of sugar, grains and fat.  It is imperative to include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains into your diet to boost your health.  If you want to improve your diet, look no further, these 5 tips below will help you get started.

Tip #1 – Eat Breakfast Daily

Eating a healthy breakfast can lead to better strength and endurance, concentration and increase problem-solving abilities.

Tip #2 – Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Most Americans don’t consume the daily recommendation of fruits and vegetables needed each day.  Try to find creative ways to incorporate these in every meal.  Smoothies are a good way to get your day started healthy and get those fruits and vegetables in your system early.  For lunch and dinner, half of every meal should be filled with fruits and vegetables.  A popular phrase we’ve heard is, “eat the rainbow,” the more colorful your plates, the better.

Tip #3 – Cook at Home Often

Going out to eat is a fun event that many Americans look forward to and there’s nothing wrong with it, in moderation.  Cooking more meals at home will allow you to control everything that is going into your system.  It’s also a great way to save money and get creative with different meal ideals and ingredients.

Tip #4 – Beware of the Sweet Drinks

Many people are often so laser-focused on their food caloric intake, they forget to count the sweet drinks.  Sodas, sweet juices and even sports drinks can be high in calories.  Try to cut out as many sweet drinks as you can.  Water is always the best option.  It will keep you hydrated and help your digestive system.

Tip #5 – Choose Food Sensibly When Eating Out

All restaurants are now required to provide nutritional information for consumers, make sure you take advantage of this by checking what’s included in that meal before purchase.  Once again, it’s not bad to eat out, but keep it in moderation and be mindful of the meals you select to help boost your overall health.
